You might have noticed that over the last couple of years that Facebook posts created by your business page are being seen by less and less of your audience, despite the fact that they ‘liked’ or ‘follow’ your page.
Businesses with thousands of followers were seeing tens of thousands of people reading their stories and hundreds or even thousands of interactions with their business page per week, but now they’re down to just a handful or interactions with just a fraction of their pages ‘followers’ seeing their content. The days of huge organic reach are over, or so it seems!
Why is Facebook reach declining and what can businesses do to prevent it?
The truth is, nothing can be done. Mark Zuckerberg announced in January 2018 that the algorithm which controls your news feed would be changing… again. Facebook, like Google, constantly changes their algorithms to test new ideas and generally create a good user experience for their customers.
Facebook’s core goal has, and always will be, to connect people with family and friends wherever they are in the world – not to help businesses to generate revenue. Despite this, you can generate huge revenues or leads through Facebook.
Paid Facebook Advertising
If you want to connect to your customers on Facebook, you’ll now have to pay for it using Facebook’s advertising platform.
Setting up is relatively straightforward. You’ll need a credit card, some ad creative and a business page to advertise from. You can even run ads through Instagram using the same platform and within the same campaign, although some of the requirements are slightly different.
There are plenty of ad types available including single image, multi-image carousels, video and lead generation forms which are really handy for capturing customer information.
Facebook Advertising Audiences
Facebook’s Audience Manager allows you to build and save customer audiences based on a variety of Demographics, Interests and some personal information. These include Location, Gender, Employment, Job Titles and Home-ownership as well as the types of pages that they like and interact with on and off Facebook.
Remarketing Audiences are also a fantastic way to get back in touch with previous website visitors. These can be accessed by creating a Facebook Pixel and adding that onto your website. You can then choose which visitors you want to target, and over what period they would have visited your website.
